RESPECT YOUR ELDERS.

I learnt this from my grandfather PA. Sunday Asaye of Owa-Odo that I
it is very important for every individual to respect his/her elders. It is also important to note that elders were not born elders, they were kids like us and now grown up old. Few years hence we will also grow older. If today we will respect our elders, our present and future generations we carry those values and will learn to respect us as well when we will grow old.
Elders have a lot to share with us, their life experiences, their first job, their first love, their mistakes, their discoveries, their success and much more like my great grandfather used to say.
They have lived up things that you could hardly imagine. They have achieved everything without much comfort such as cell phones and computers like us. They are amazingly interesting, intelligent and strong human beings who have experienced various hardships in life in the real sense.
Elders feel honored when you appreciate them and offer assistance to them. It is our duty to help them when needed because they are old now and are incapable to handle things on their own like before. You should always help your elders like holding groceries and opening a door to show sign of respect.
I could vividly remembered then during my days at primary Level, we were like three of friends then in the same class, we usually helping our parents in the farm, there’s a rotation we up to which we called it in my dialect as “OKO ABÒ”. Whenever we came back from school then, we used to meet our parents in the farm to help them, we worked for them, we respected them alot and they always prayed for us, their prayers still working for us up till this moment. We can see that it’s good to respect elders.
But unfortunately nowadays elders people in our society are not seen with much respect. They are unable to get the love, affection and respect that they truly deserve. It’s high time that we should awaken our soul to fell the importance of our elders in our lives. It’s really difficult for us to imagine life without elders.
